SADBL’s QR Banking Services
As a Class B financial institution licensed by Nepal Rastra Bank Shangri-La Development Bank continues to focus on innovation and customer centric solutions. The new QR banking feature allows individuals and business owners to manage their financial activities simply by scanning codes through the official mobile banking application. This service is designed to make banking accessible anytime and anywhere whether for retail shopping or institutional payments.
Understanding the M-Banking and QR Ecosystem
The QR Banking facility is embedded within the Shangrila Smart mobile application which serves as a comprehensive digital hub for the customers of the bank. This application allows users to access their accounts and perform fund transfers and pay utility bills and now execute scan to pay transactions at thousands of merchant outlets across the country. The app utilizes high level encryption and secure authentication protocols to ensure that every transaction is safe from unauthorized access.
With the rapid adoption of smartphones in Nepal digital payment systems like QR codes have become the preferred choice for both small scale vendors and large corporations. By providing this facility Shangri-La Development Bank is helping its clients transition away from traditional paper based transactions toward a more efficient and transparent digital financial environment.
QR Acceptance Charges and Merchant Fees
To maintain a sustainable and high quality digital payment network the bank has outlined specific charges for its QR services. These fees are categorized based on the type of network and the nature of the transaction. For merchants and business owners who accept payments through the bank these charges are an essential part of the digital payment infrastructure.
For cross border QR transactions the bank has established two different Merchant Discount Rates. For the FonePay QR network the rate is set at 1.95 percent of the transaction value. For the Nepal Pay QR network which is operated by the Nepal Clearing House Limited the rate is slightly lower at 1.75 percent. These charges apply when international or specific cross border payment instruments are used at a merchant location.
Additionally there are specific rates for merchants who accept payments through the FonePay Virtual Credit Card. For transactions up to NPR 2,000 there is no charge to the merchant making it highly beneficial for small value daily sales. For any transaction amount above NPR 2,000 the bank applies a fee of 0.6 percent of the total transaction amount or a flat rate of NPR 300 whichever is lower. This tiered structure ensures that digital payments remain affordable for small businesses while providing a cap on fees for high value transactions.
Benefits of Digital QR Payments
The shift toward QR banking offers numerous advantages for both individual consumers and the broader economy of Nepal. For the customer the primary benefit is the elimination of the need to carry a bulky wallet or wait for change after a purchase. Transactions are completed in seconds and a digital receipt is instantly generated within the mobile app providing a clear record of all expenditures.
For business owners the QR system simplifies cash management and reduces the risks associated with handling large amounts of physical currency. Payments are deposited directly into the bank account of the merchant which improves financial record keeping and allows for better cash flow monitoring. Furthermore being a part of a national QR network like FonePay or Nepal Pay allows a business to accept payments from customers of almost any other bank or digital wallet in the country.
Getting Started with Shangri-La Smart Banking
To utilize the QR Banking service customers must first have an active account with Shangri-La Development Bank and subscribe to its mobile banking facility. The Shangrila Smart app is available for download on both the Google Play Store for Android users and the Apple App Store for iPhone users. After a simple registration and activation process which may involve visiting a local branch for financial role activation users can start scanning and paying immediately.
The bank encourages its users to keep their login credentials and transaction pins strictly confidential to maintain the security of their digital accounts. Regularly changing the transaction pin and reporting any lost mobile devices to the bank are recommended best practices for all digital banking users. As the institution continues to expand its digital footprint more features are expected to be added to the platform to further enhance the banking experience in Nepal.
