Nepal Life Nari Suraksha Plan Launched for Women
19th February 2026, Kathmandu
The insurance landscape in Nepal has witnessed a transformative development with the official launch of the Nepal Life Nari Suraksha Jeevan Beema Yojana, a specialized life insurance product designed exclusively for the female population. Introduced on the occasion of International Women’s Day in March 2026 (Falgun 2082), this plan marks the first time a major insurer in Nepal has tailored a comprehensive policy to meet the unique biological, social, and financial needs of women. By integrating critical illness coverage, maternity benefits, and a progressive death benefit structure, Nepal Life Insurance Company is positioning this product as a cornerstone for female financial empowerment and long term security. The tagline of the plan, Multiple Benefits in a Single Plan, Easy Access for Every Woman, reflects the company’s objective to simplify complex risk protection into a single, accessible instrument.
Nepal Life Nari Suraksha
One of the most innovative technical features of the Nepal Life Nari Suraksha plan is the Progressive Death Benefit. Unlike standard life insurance where the sum assured remains static throughout the policy term, this plan ensures that the financial cushion for the family grows as time passes. The base sum assured increases by 25 percent for every five completed years of the policy. For instance, if a woman starts a policy with a sum assured of 500,000 rupees, after five years, the effective death benefit increases to 625,000 rupees. After ten years, it rises to 750,000 rupees, and by the twentieth year, the protection reaches 1,000,000 rupees. This automatic escalation is designed to combat inflation and provide enhanced security as the policyholder enters different life stages. It is important to note that while the death benefit increases, the bonus continues to be calculated based on the initial base sum assured, ensuring the policy remains financially sustainable for the insurer while providing extra value to the insured.
In a landmark move for the Nepali insurance sector, the Nari Suraksha plan introduces structured financial support for maternity care and pregnancy related health risks. The policy includes a dedicated Pregnancy Complication Rider (PCR) that covers 11 serious medical conditions, including eclampsia, placental abruption, and ectopic pregnancy. If any of these certified complications occur during the policy term, the company provides an immediate lump sum payment of 100,000 rupees to help the family manage the high costs of emergency medical interventions. Additionally, the plan offers a maternity care benefit of 10,000 rupees for certified pregnancies, which serves as a symbolic and practical gesture toward supporting prenatal healthcare. These features address a long standing gap in the market where pregnancy was often excluded or treated as a separate, high premium health insurance category rather than being integrated into life insurance.
Financial liquidity is another key component of this women-centric product. The Nari Suraksha plan provides an Annual Cash Gift Benefit, where a fixed percentage of the sum assured is returned to the policyholder on every policy anniversary. This feature turns the insurance policy into a regular income generating asset, allowing women to fund recurring personal expenses, educational needs, or small business reinvestments. This periodic cash flow is particularly attractive for the growing demographic of self employed women and professionals in Nepal who value consistent liquidity alongside long term savings. The policy is open to women between the ages of 18 and 65, with a maximum maturity age of 75 years, ensuring that coverage can extend into the retirement years when financial independence is most critical.
Beyond the core benefits, the plan allows for extensive customization through optional riders. Policyholders can choose to add Accidental Death Benefit (ADB), Total Permanent Disability (TPD) coverage, and the Premium Waiver Benefit (PWB). The Premium Waiver Benefit is especially significant; if the policyholder suffers a total permanent disability due to an accident, the company waives all future premium payments while keeping the insurance coverage and bonus accrual active. This ensures that a woman’s financial security is not compromised even if her earning capacity is lost due to unforeseen circumstances. With a minimum sum assured requirement of only 250,000 rupees, the product is accessible to a wide range of socioeconomic groups, from rural farmers to urban executives.
In conclusion, the Nepal Life Nari Suraksha Jeevan Beema Yojana represents a major shift toward gender sensitive financial planning in Nepal. By combining high value death benefits with practical maternity support and annual cash payouts, Nepal Life Insurance Company has created a robust tool for female empowerment. As financial literacy among women in Nepal continues to grow, such targeted products are expected to play a vital role in increasing the overall insurance penetration rate of the country. This plan doesn’t just offer a safety net; it provides a roadmap for women to build a secure, independent, and dignified future for themselves and their families.
