WorldLink CSR Solar Education Initiative Expands in Kalikot
19th February 2026, Kathmandu
WorldLink Communications, the largest private sector internet service provider in Nepal, has reached a significant milestone in its corporate social responsibility journey by delivering high impact infrastructure to the remote region of Kalikot. On February 17, 2026 (Falgun 5, 2082), the company officially handed over a specialized solar power system and medical refrigeration unit to the Nanikot Basic Health Post located in Pachaljharana Rural Municipality Ward Number 7. This initiative, led by WorldLink CSR Director Anupa Bhandari Jalan, is designed to address the dual challenges of energy poverty and digital exclusion in the Karnali Province. By combining renewable energy for healthcare with technology enabled education at the local secondary school, WorldLink is demonstrating a holistic approach to rural development that aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including health, education, and climate action.

The healthcare component of the project focuses on the critical need for a reliable cold chain in vaccine management. Historically, the Nanikot Basic Health Post struggled with the inconsistent supply of grid electricity, which frequently compromised the storage of temperature sensitive medical supplies. WorldLink’s installation of a 3 kilowatt solar power system provides a sustainable and independent energy source that exclusively powers a new deep freezer dedicated to medicine and vaccine storage. This setup ensures that essential immunizations for children and emergency medications remain effective regardless of local power outages or voltage fluctuations. During the handover ceremony, local health officials noted that this intervention would significantly reduce vaccine wastage and improve the overall public health outcomes for the hundreds of families residing in the Pachaljharana area.
Parallel to the healthcare upgrades, WorldLink has also transformed the learning environment at Shree Pangeli Devi Secondary School in the same ward. Recognizing that English language proficiency and digital literacy are vital for the future success of Nepali youth, the company facilitated a specialized online English course for a group of 25 students. This program was implemented in collaboration with the Lokopakar Institute, a partner organization dedicated to social welfare. The school was equipped with a smart board and high speed internet connectivity, allowing students to interact with multimedia lessons and participate in virtual classroom sessions. Director Jalan, during her field visit to the school, observed the progress of the students and emphasized that digital education is not just about technology but about giving rural children the same competitive edge as those studying in urban centers like Kathmandu.
The choice of Kalikot for this CSR initiative is strategically significant. Karnali Province remains one of the most underserved regions in Nepal in terms of both digital infrastructure and basic public services. By investing in a 3 kilowatt solar system, WorldLink is promoting SDG 7, which calls for affordable and clean energy. Unlike diesel generators, which are expensive to operate and environmentally damaging, the solar solution provides a zero emission alternative that is perfectly suited for the high altitude and sunny conditions of the Himalayan foothills. Furthermore, the integration of technology in the classroom directly supports SDG 4, which aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education. For many of the 25 students at Shree Pangeli Devi Secondary School, this was their first formal exposure to smart board technology and structured online learning.
WorldLink’s CSR philosophy has evolved from simple donations to sustainable infrastructure partnerships. Under the leadership of Director Anupa Bhandari Jalan, the company’s CSR department has been focusing on projects that have a long term operational life. The solar system in Nanikot, for instance, was installed with high quality components designed to withstand the harsh weather conditions of Kalikot with minimal maintenance. Similarly, the certificates distributed to the students after completing the English course serve as recognized credentials that can motivate them to pursue higher education or vocational training. WorldLink believes that by connecting the unconnected, it is not just providing internet bandwidth but is facilitating a platform for socio-economic transformation that touches every aspect of community life, from health to education.
As Nepal continues to work toward bridging the digital divide, initiatives like the one in Kalikot serve as a scalable model for other corporate entities. The success of the Nanikot project highlights the importance of multi-sectoral collaboration involving private companies, local government bodies, and non-profit partners. WorldLink has stated that it will continue to monitor the impact of these installations and intends to replicate this integrated health and education model in other remote districts of the Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces in the coming years. By the end of the 2082/83 fiscal year, the company aims to have reached over 100 rural schools and health centers with similar technology driven support programs, reinforcing its position as a socially responsible leader in Nepal’s telecommunications industry.
In conclusion, the WorldLink CSR solar and education project in Kalikot is a powerful example of how technology can be used to solve real world problems in the most challenging environments. From ensuring the safety of life saving vaccines to opening a window of global knowledge for rural students, the company is making a tangible difference in the lives of the people of Pachaljharana. As the solar panels in Nanikot begin to generate clean power and the students at Pangeli Devi explore the digital world, the future of Kalikot looks significantly brighter and more connected.
