Yashu Thakali Appointed MD of Pathao Nepal, Aims 10x Digital Economy Growth

Yashu Thakali has been appointed as the new Managing Director (MD) of Pathao Nepal. The company handed over the leadership responsibility to Thakali following the resignation of the outgoing MD, Asheem Man Singh Basnyat.

Thakali, who also serves as the Senior Vice President of the Pathao Group, has been an integral part of Pathao Nepal for the past eight years. He was one of the founding team members when the ride-hailing and logistics giant officially launched its operations in Nepal back in 2018.

The 10x Digital Economy Vision for Nepal

Under Thakali’s newly assumed leadership, Pathao Nepal has set an ambitious target to scale the Nepalese digital economy by 10 times within the next five years.

To achieve this monumental goal, Pathao is gearing up to integrate various digital verticals into a single, cohesive ecosystem. According to the company, the strategic roadmap includes expanding its domestic parcel delivery infrastructure nationwide, alongside strengthening its core services:

From Finance Chief to Managing Director

Thakali’s journey within Pathao reflects his multi-dimensional expertise. He initially joined the company, heading the Finance Department, and gradually transitioned into core corporate management and operations.

His contribution has been pivotal in transforming Pathao Nepal from a pure play ride-sharing app into a diversified tech platform. His strategic maneuvering helped Pathao scale its food and parcel delivery wings, securing a dominant market share despite facing fierce competition in the Nepalese tech ecosystem.

Proven Track Record in International Markets

Beyond Nepal, Thakali has already proven his operational prowess on an international level. Under his leadership over the last two years, Pathao has witnessed explosive growth in Bangladesh. Notably, Pathao’s bike, car, and auto-rickshaw mobility services in Bangladesh registered a massive three-fold (3x) growth during his tenure.

A Chartered Accountant (CA) by profession, Thakali brings a wealth of background in corporate finance and asset management to the table. Before his tech career, he worked with a reputed CA firm in Bangalore, India. He also served as an Assets Manager for the multinational conglomerate CG Corp Global, where he successfully managed 42 prime properties spread across seven different nations.

With his strong financial acumen, international operational experience, and deep-rooted understanding of the local market, Thakali is uniquely positioned to drive Pathao Nepal towards its next phase of exponential digital transformation.
