The project aims to strengthen water conservation activities in Nepal through structured local community engagement as its core objective.
As part of the official launch, the Chief of the District Coordination Committee, Mr. Lalit Ghalan, together with the Unilever leadership team, handed over young plant seedlings and tree saplings to local women.
The symbolic handover reflected the shared commitment of all stakeholders toward protecting and nurturing the local environment.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by around 85 participants, including senior representatives from Unilever Nepal, RADO Nepal, local government authorities, civil society organizations, and community beneficiaries, especially local women, with an emphasis on the importance of collection action in building climate resilience and protecting local ecosystems for water conservation.
Mr. Amlan Mukherjee, Managing Director at Unilever Nepal, conveyed his appreciation for the initiative, stating, “At Unilever Nepal, we believe that business growth and community resilience must move together.
This initiative reflects our commitment to creating long-term positive impact by working closely with local stakeholders and communities. What is good for Nepal is good for Unilever, and we remain committed to contributing meaningfully to the country’s environmental and social progress.”
Dr. Krishna Dhital, Chairperson of RADO Nepal, highlighted the importance of community-led action in addressing climate vulnerabilities. He said, “Environmental resilience cannot be built through isolated efforts.
It requires the active involvement of communities, institutions, and responsible partners. Through this initiative, we aim to empower local communities with the knowledge, ownership, and tools required to respond to emerging environmental challenges sustainably.”
Adding to the significance of responsible partnerships, Mr. Govinda Shahi, Legal Head and Company Secretary, Unilever Nepal, stated, “Sustainable development is most effective when it is rooted in accountability, compliance, and shared responsibility.
This collaboration reinforces our belief that meaningful CSR must go beyond contribution; it must create systems that support long-term community ownership and environmental stewardship.”
The formal program concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Sanjoy Bhattacharyya, Factory Manager at Unilever Nepal, who acknowledged the participation and contribution of all stakeholders and reaffirmed Unilever Nepal’s continued commitment to sustainable community development.
