AI Research and Development Center Launched in Lumbini Region: Historical MoU Signed Between LTIC and Western Mega College
30th June 2026, Kathmandu
Taking a monumental step toward making Lumbini Province a hub for advanced technology, the Lumbini Tech Innovation Center (LTIC) has initiated the establishment of the region’s first dedicated AI Research and Development Center.

This landmark project has been brought to life through a strategic Industry-Academia Tie-up. A formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between LTIC and Butwal’s prominent Western Mega College, bridging the gap between theoretical computing and real-world industrial deployment.
LTIC’s Vision: Transforming Academic Knowledge into Industry Practice
The historic agreement was officially executed by Dhan Bahadur Rana, Founder Chairman of the Lumbini Tech Innovation Center (LTIC), alongside the Principal of Western Mega College.
By spearheading this initiative, LTIC aims to cultivate an ecosystem where IT students no longer have to look toward the capital city or international markets for world-class technical exposure. The launch event brought together key visionaries who are driving this change:
Krishna Sapkota: Renowned AI Researcher and Founder Director of LTIC, who will oversee the center’s technical and scientific roadmap.
Krishna Shrestha: Visionary BIT Coordinator at Western Mega College, managing academic integration.
During the launch, LTIC leadership highlighted that this newly initiated center is a direct response to the national Brain Drain challenge. By offering high-tier technical infrastructure locally, the center ensures that skilled Nepalese youth can build global solutions from within their home province.
The Three-Pillar Framework Initiated by LTIC
To ensure measurable impact, LTIC has designed a comprehensive three-pillar program explicitly tailored for IT and BIT students at Western Mega College:
Advanced Practical Workshops: LTIC’s senior engineers will lead hands-on bootcamps covering industry-critical domains like Generative AI, Data Modeling, and Prompt Engineering.
Live Project Internships: Students will be directly embedded into active corporate projects handled by LTIC, gaining authentic software development lifecycle experience before graduation.
Direct Job Placement Pipeline: LTIC will assist in modernizing the college’s practical curriculum to match fluctuating market demands, creating a direct employment pipeline into local and national IT firms.
Solving Local Challenges Through R&D
Beyond educational training, the core objective of this LTIC-led center is localized problem-solving. The Research and Development (R&D) lab will actively encourage students and faculty members to build tailored AI-driven solutions targeting the unique agricultural, administrative, and economic landscapes of Lumbini Province.
Industry Insight: True digital transformation occurs when local tech centers actively build solutions for local problems. LTIC’s new initiative sets a powerful precedent for corporate-academic partnerships in Nepal.
