NADA Auto Show to Prioritize Vehicles Assembled in Nepal: Surendra Kumar Upreti

NADA Automobiles Association of Nepal (NADA) is organizing the ‘NADA Auto Show 2026’ at Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu, from Bhadra 9 to 14 (August 25 to 30, 2026).
NADA Auto Show Prioritizes Vehicles
The event will go beyond a standard vehicle sales exhibition to showcase the comprehensive ecosystem of Nepal’s automotive sector.
According to NADA President Surendra Kumar Upreti, this year’s exhibition will bring together various auto-related sectors under one roof, including spare parts, lubricants, tires, insurance, banking and financial services, after-sales services, and emerging automotive technologies.
“NADA is not an exhibition held solely for trading,” said Upreti. “Our primary objective is to present new innovations, technological developments, and the future direction of the automotive industry to consumers.”
Key Highlights of NADA Auto Show 2026
Stalls & Brands: The event will feature over 200 stalls, where various brands plan to launch new models and products. Specific launch schedules for each brand will be announced in a separate press conference.
Priority for Domestic Assembly: Vehicles manufactured and assembled in Nepal will receive special spotlighting to encourage local industrial investment.
Yatri Motorcycles: The completely locally manufactured Yatri Motorcycles are set to be showcased during the event.
Long-Term Policy Vision: Upreti emphasized that stable, long-term government policies for local assembly lines could attract multinational automotive giants to invest in Nepal.
Electric Vehicles (EVs) & Infrastructure Challenges
Growing EV Demand: Consumer interest in EVs is steadily rising compared to conventional petrol and diesel vehicles.
Charging Infrastructure Shortage: Despite having over 2,000 charging stations installed across Nepal by EV importers and the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), the current infrastructure remains insufficient to match the rapid growth of EVs.

Future Technologies: While EVs represent the current market trend, NADA Auto Show 2026 will also highlight emerging mobility technologies expected over the next 5 to 10 years.
Automobile Market on the Path to Recovery
President Upreti noted that Nepal’s automotive market is showing gradual signs of recovery:
Policy Relief: Recent government budget and monetary policy measures have alleviated long-standing tax, import, and financial constraints for automotive businesses.
Credit Accessibility: He advocated for smoother loan disbursements for heavy vehicles and requested an increase in the Loan-to-Value (LTV) ratio for vehicle purchases.
Market Liquidity: Raising the LTV ratio and offering temporary interest rate subsidies would ease consumer purchasing, helping channel bank liquidity back into the economy.
An Economic Ecosystem, Road Safety, and Skill Building
Economic Impact: The auto show supports a broad economic web—including insurance, banking, media, transportation, hospitality, and food services—while contributing significantly to government revenue and GDP.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR): In partnership with the Traffic Police, NADA conducts road safety awareness campaigns focused on discouraging unnecessary honking and dangerous overtaking.
Skill Development: NADA collaborates with various institutions to provide skill-based training to create a qualified workforce and link trained individuals to active employment opportunities.
