The month-long #SafaGarau initiative concluded its Shrawan Somvar activities at the Pashupatinath Temple premises, bringing together more than 500 volunteers, students, sanitation workers, and partner organizations to support waste management during one of the busiest pilgrimage periods of the year.
Led by CREASION Nepal, with support from The Coca-Cola Foundation and in partnership with the Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT), the initiative responded to the increased footfall at Pashupatinath during the holy month of Shrawan, when hundreds of thousands of devotees visit the heritage site.
It supported efforts to empower local workers and volunteers to manage waste and maintain cleanliness across the premises, while encouraging responsible disposal and creating a cleaner environment for devotees and visitors.
The closing ceremony was attended by Mr. Aditya Panda, Director, PACS – Sustainability & ESG Value Creation; Mr. Ajay Konale, Managing Director, Bottlers Nepal Limited; Ms. Aruna Karki, President, CREASION Nepal; Mr. Aanand Mishra, Founder, CREASION; representatives of PADT and other distinguished guests.
“Collaboration is key to improving waste management and encouraging responsible practices. Through our support for #SafaGaraun, The Coca-Cola Foundation aims to empower the local community to promote better waste management.
This approach also contributes to cleaner public spaces and long-term environmental responsibility,” said Carlos Pagoaga, President of The Coca-Cola Foundation.
Held every Monday throughout Shrawan, the program paired volunteers with more than two dozen sanitation workers to collect and segregate waste while encouraging responsible disposal.
The initiative also raised awareness about responsible waste management and the importance of collective action in protecting Nepal’s heritage.
Speaking at the closing session, CREASION Nepal Chairperson Ms. Aruna Karki expressed gratitude to all participants for sustaining the initiative despite various challenges. “We want to take this partnership and support from The Coca-Cola Foundation nationwide in the days ahead. ‘#SafaGarau’ must be understood not as a one-off event, but as an ongoing national initiative,” she added.
Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) Member Secretary, Tirtha Prasad Shrestha, said, “We would like to express our heartfelt thanks and sincere appreciation to The Coca-Cola Foundation for its valuable support and contribution to the conservation and promotion of the environment in the Pashupati Area. We also look forward to continued support and collaboration in the days ahead.”
As part of the programme, benches made from recycled PET plastic were inaugurated, demonstrating how plastic waste can be transformed into useful public infrastructure.
The programme also recognized the contributions of volunteers, sanitation workers and partner organizations, with PADT presenting a Letter of Appreciation to The Coca-Cola Foundation for its continued support and certificates of appreciation to volunteers and sanitation workers for their dedication throughout the four-week initiative.
Building on the momentum of the Shrawan initiative, #SafaGarau will continue with activities leading up to Hartalika Teej on 14 September 2026, further encouraging community participation, responsible waste management, and sustainable practices to help preserve Nepal’s heritage sites.
