Nepal Rastra Bank Issues Warning Against Fraudulent QR Codes and Fake Accounts

Nepal Rastra Bank has issued a public warning notice on Bhadra 15, 2083, urging citizens to remain vigilant against unauthorized individuals collecting funds using fake QR codes and fraudulent bank details under the guise of the Prime Minister Natural Disaster Rescue Fund.

Mandatory Verification Guidelines for Donors

Recipient Name Verification: Always verify that the account holder name displays as Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund before confirming transactions on mobile banking, digital wallets, or ConnectIPS platforms.

Transaction Amount Double Check: Carefully double check and verify the exact transfer amount both before and after completing the transaction.

Official Information Sources: Retrieve bank account details strictly from official portals of Nepal Rastra Bank, the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, or the Ministry of Finance.

Unauthorized QR Prevention: Avoid scanning or paying via unverified QR codes shared through social media, messaging apps, or email chains.

Security Protocols and Fraud Reporting

Confidentiality Protection: Never share one-time passwords (OTPs), personal identification numbers (PINs), or transaction passwords with anyone claiming to assist with relief payments.

Secure Application Usage: Process digital transfers exclusively through verified, official payment applications.

Immediate Fraud Reporting: Victims of fraudulent activity should immediately report the incident to their primary financial institution, payment service provider, the Nepal Police Cyber Bureau, or the central bank Financial Consumer Protection Unit.
