Nepal Rastra Bank Removes Digital Transfer Limits for PM Disaster Relief Fund

Nepal Rastra Bank has removed the maximum transaction limits on digital fund transfers made to the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund and the Prime Minister Relief Fund to facilitate relief and rescue operations for citizens affected by floods and inundation.

Removal of Transaction Caps: The Payment Systems Department of Nepal Rastra Bank instructed all licensed payment service institutions to waive prescribed maximum transaction caps for payments directed to designated relief accounts.

Applicable Platforms: The exemption applies to all digital transfers completed via mobile banking platforms, web applications, and electronic money solutions.

Exemption from Integrated Directive: While standard digital transfers are governed by maximum transaction limits under the Integrated Directive on Payment Systems 2082, the central bank clarified that these restrictions will not apply to transfers made to official government relief accounts.

Impact on Donors and Institutions

Implementation Directive: Licensed banks, financial institutions, and payment service providers have been instructed to immediately update their internal systems to support unlimited transfer limits for the designated relief accounts.

Enhanced Donor Flexibility: Individual donors, corporate entities, and humanitarian organizations can now transfer large sums seamlessly via digital wallets, mobile apps, and online banking platforms without encountering daily or transactional cap restrictions.
