Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle Departs for the United States: High-Level Talks Focused on Bilateral Cooperation, Reconstruction, and Economic Reforms
At the invitation of World Bank Group President Ajay Banga, a Nepali delegation led by Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle departed for Washington, D.C., USA, on Friday night for a two-day official visit.
Scheduled for Ashoj 19 and 20 (October 5–6), this high-level visit is considered highly significant for Nepal’s economic reforms and infrastructure development.
Key Agenda and Discussion Topics
During his visit to the United States, Finance Minister Wagle will hold detailed discussions with the World Bank and U.S. government officials on several crucial matters:
Post-Bhotekoshi Flood Reconstruction: A top priority is mobilizing additional aid for the reconstruction and resilient development of physical and economic infrastructure damaged by the recent catastrophic floods in the Bhotekoshi region.
Economic Reforms and FATF Grey List: Discussions will cover strategies to guide Nepal out of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Grey List, alongside various dimensions of broad economic reforms.
Bilateral Cooperation and Investment Promotion: The core objective is to increase investments from development partners and the private sector in critical infrastructure projects such as roads and transmission lines to generate employment and economic opportunities within the country.
