Education Minister Pokharel Urges Unique Identity for Lumbini Buddhist University; University Donates NPR 1M to Rasuwa Flood Victims

Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel has emphasized that Lumbini Buddhist University must maintain a distinct identity focused on Buddhist philosophy and indigenous knowledge rather than traditional subjects alone. During a recent welcome program, the university also demonstrated its social responsibility by handing over NPR 1 million in financial assistance to Minister Pokharel for the relief and rehabilitation of flood victims in Rasuwa.
Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel has emphasized that Lumbini Buddhist University should be advanced with a distinct and unique identity compared to other universities.
Addressing a welcome program organized by the university, he stated that, established in the birthplace of Lord Buddha, the institution should focus its objectives on introducing Buddhist philosophy, indigenous knowledge, and Nepal’s native identity to the global community.
Priority on Buddhist Philosophy and Indigenous Knowledge
During the program, Minister Pokharel stressed that the university should not limit itself to traditional subjects like engineering and science, but should instead prioritize the study, research, and promotion of Buddhist philosophy and related fields.
Unique Identity: While constituent campuses are expanding, the university must not deviate from its core objective and the teaching-learning of Buddhist philosophy.
Collaboration and Promotion: It was highlighted that the university should maintain its standalone identity while moving forward in collaboration with other educational institutions.
Native Identity: Discussions during the event noted the ample potential for the university to introduce Nepal’s originality and indigenous knowledge to the world.
NPR 1 Million Financial Assistance for Rasuwa Flood Victims
Meanwhile, Lumbini Buddhist University has extended financial support to citizens affected by recent floods in the Rasuwa region.
Relief Contribution: The university has provided NPR 1 million in financial assistance for flood victims.
Handover: The amount was officially handed over to Education and Sports Minister Sasmit Pokharel on Friday to be directed toward the relief fund.
This contribution by the educational institution fulfills its social responsibility and is expected to provide significant support toward the relief and rehabilitation of the flood-affected citizens.
