Pokhara University Passes NPR 1.75 Billion Budget for FY 2083/84: Prioritizing Academic Reforms and Digital Transformation

The 26th General Assembly of Pokhara University has unanimously approved a comprehensive budget, policies, and programs totaling NPR 1.758 billion for the fiscal year 2083/84. Placing a strong emphasis on modernization, the university has prioritized educational quality, research and innovation, digital transformation, infrastructure development, and employment-oriented educational programs.
The high-level assembly was held at the university’s central office in Dhungepatan, Pokhara-30, under the chairmanship of Minister for Education and Sports and Pro-Chancellor of the University, Sasmit Pokharel. During the meeting, the annual policies and programs presented by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Devendra Adhikari and the financial budget presented by Registrar Prof. Dr. Nirmala Jamarkattel were formally adopted.
Key Decisions and Structural Reforms
The assembly passed several monumental resolutions aimed at expanding academic horizons and institutional efficiency:
Faculty Restructuring: The assembly approved necessary amendments to existing regulations, officially reorganizing the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences into the newly expanded “Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Law.”
Constituent Campus Expansion: The decision to integrate and expand Shramik Shanti Campus, located in Chyasal, Lalitpur, as a constituent campus of the university was formally endorsed.
New Academic Programs & Exams: Official approval was granted for degree determinations across various specialized programs, including BE Mechanical, BICA, and BBA Finance, alongside provisions for conducting special make-up examinations.
Strategic Vision and Directives from Leadership
Addressing the assembly, Pro-Chancellor Sasmit Pokharel stressed that higher education institutions must cultivate distinct identities based on their regional and institutional strengths.
He highlighted that Pokhara University should spearhead innovative academic programs tailored to the potential of Gandaki Province, such as adventure tourism.
Furthermore, Pro-Chancellor Pokharel issued strict directives to the university administration to:
