Nepal Bans Indian Movie ‘Udta Teer’ Ahead of Release: Here’s Why
19th October 2026, Kathmandu
The Government of Nepal has officially banned the public screening of the upcoming Indian Hindi film ‘Udta Teer’ across the country.
The Ministry of Information and Communication issued an official letter to the local distribution company, National Cine Group Nepal, confirming that permission for the public exhibition of the movie has been denied.
Legal Grounds for the Ban
According to the letter from the Ministry’s Audio-Visual and Broadcast Section, the decision was made under Section 8(3) of the Motion Picture (Production, Exhibition, and Distribution) Act, 2026 BS. The Ministry stated that the film’s content violates the provisions of the Act, making it ineligible for public distribution and screening in Nepalese theaters.
The Central Film Censor Board of Nepal had examined the movie a few days prior to the official notice. Directed by Akash Kaushik, the film was scheduled to release nationwide this coming Friday.
Controversial Content Behind the Decision
Udta Teer is a Hindi spy-comedy starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan in lead roles. The storyline revolves around an intelligence agent who suffers memory loss and finds himself stranded on the zero-line border between India and Pakistan.
The ban stems from the movie’s anti-Pakistan themes and geopolitical commentary. Nepal’s Central Film Censor Board has previously maintained a strict policy prohibiting the screening of films that target neighboring or friendly nations, ensuring that imported content does not adversely affect Nepal’s diplomatic relations.
