Chandragiri Hills Restores Operations, Welcomes Back Pilgrims and Tourists
Chandragiri Cable Car Reopens
9th November 2025, Kathmandu
The Chandragiri Cable Car and Resort officially resumed operations on Saturday morning, marking the end of a 60-day temporary service suspension.
Chandragiri Cable Car Reopens
The resumption of the Chandragiri Cable Car Reopens service restores easy access to Bhaleshwar Mahadev Temple, one of Nepal’s most significant religious and tourist destinations.
With the cable car running again, pilgrims can now easily visit the temple, and tourists can once again enjoy the renowned hospitality and scenic views offered by the resort.
The services provided by Chandragiri Hills had been severely disrupted following an act of vandalism on Bhadra 24 (mid-September), which resulted in extensive damage to the cable car’s bottom station. This required a complete shutdown of operations for safety assessments and necessary restoration work.
Ensuring Safety with International Expertise
To guarantee a secure and seamless experience for all passengers, Chandragiri Hills management called upon high-level technicians from the cable car manufacturer, Doppelmayr of Austria.
These international experts were tasked with overseeing the critical repairs, conducting rigorous safety tests, and completing thorough inspections of the system.
This meticulous process ensured that all necessary maintenance and safety checks were completed to the highest international standards.
The management confirmed that all efforts were focused on bringing the cable car back into operation while ensuring a safe and reliable service for passengers. This dedication to technical excellence underscores the company’s commitment to public safety.
Gratitude and Welcome from Management
Hem Raj Dhakal, Chairman of Chandragiri Hills, extended his sincere gratitude to the dedicated technical team that worked continuously and intensely to restore the service.
He also expressed his deep appreciation for the patience shown by both pilgrims and tourists during the two-month-long closure. Chairman Dhakal enthusiastically welcomed back all visitors: “We actively welcome back all tourists eager to enjoy the stunning panoramic views of the Kathmandu Valley and the peaceful environment, as well as the devotees of Bhaleshwar Mahadev.”
He noted that before the temporary shutdown, the cable car typically served around two thousand pilgrims and tourists daily. The management also thanked the local community for their consistent cooperation and support during the difficult period of service restoration.
The Importance of Chandragiri to Tourism
The swift reopening of the Chandragiri Cable Car is crucial for Nepal’s tourism sector. The site offers a rare combination of religious significance, panoramic natural beauty, and modern hospitality just outside the capital city.
The smooth functioning of the cable car is essential to support local businesses and reinforce Kathmandu’s reputation as a prime tourist gateway.
The restoration of service is expected to quickly return visitor numbers to pre-closure levels, benefiting not only the resort but also the surrounding communities that rely on tourism revenue.
The resilience shown in restoring the service swiftly following such extensive damage is a positive signal for the stability of Nepal’s major tourist attractions.
