The excitement for the Nepal Premier League (NPL) has reached a fever pitch following a spectacular trophy display by the Kathmandu Gorgonz team across the Kathmandu Valley.
NPL Trophy Tour Hits Kathmandu
In a major boost to fan engagement, the NPL trophy was paraded through the historic precincts of Patan Durbar Square and Basantapur Durbar Square on Wednesday.
The trophy tour, which also passed through Jawalakhel, served not only as a promotional event for the upcoming cricket season but also as a powerful statement of intent from the local franchise.
Captain Karan KC’s Bold Vow: “The Trophy Will Return Here”
During the showcase, Kathmandu Gorgonz Captain and national cricket star, Karan KC, made a stirring declaration to the local crowd.
Acknowledging the significance of the event, KC stated: “This NPL trophy has come to Kathmandu for the first time, but I claim that we will win this trophy and bring it back to this very spot at the end [of the tournament].”
The passionate fast bowler, known for his fighting spirit, appealed directly to the city’s inhabitants for their full backing.
“This is all about sports, which is giving Nepal recognition [globally]. It is for this reason that we will work hard and, with all your support, promote Nepal through the medium of cricket,” Captain KC emphasized. “Please support us until the final; we must win and bring the trophy back together.”
The NPL’s Role in Elevating Nepali Cricket
Karan KC’s message underscores the wider ambition of the NPL: to leverage cricket as a platform to elevate Nepal’s international profile.
The successful staging and growing popularity of the league, featuring both top Nepali and international talent, are crucial in the development of the national game.
The NPL Trophy Tour is designed to connect the tournament with the rich cultural heritage of the country, generating massive public enthusiasm and setting a strong precedent for the upcoming NPL season.
