The Youth IGF is an important national youth campaign organized by the United Nations Internet Governance Forum Secretariat to encourage meaningful discussions on internet operation and governance issues and strengthen the role of youth in this domain.

The annual meeting of the Youth IGF, held with the theme of ‘Empowerment of youth for an open, inclusive, and safe internet,’ elected Gautam as the President.

The event, which took place in December 2021, was attended by various stakeholder groups and youth. Purushottam Khanal, Chairperson of the Nepal Telecommunications Authority, played a key role as the host of the program.

The program focused on mainstreaming youth issues in internet governance and empowering youth in policy-making processes.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Electronic Governance Commission, Bista, highlighted the government’s efforts in transforming government services for universal access in the age of information technology.

As the outgoing president, Deepa Bhattarai handed over the leadership to the newly elected president, Gautam. Additionally, Surendra Tiwari has been elected as the Vice Chair of the forum.

This development signifies the commitment of the youth in Nepal to actively participate in shaping the future of the Internet and ensuring an open, inclusive, and safe online environment.
