A writ petition has been filed in the Supreme Court by CG Communication operated by the Chaudhary Group demanding to halt the frequency increase practices.
A petition was filed against the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology and the Nepal Telecommunication Authority on Sunday demanding that the Nepal Telecommunication Authority’s auction for frequency distribution be halted. The NTA issued the auction on Mangsir 18th.
An order has been demanded to keep the frequency intact until the final request is finalized by the supreme court.
The petition demanded that CG owned frequencies of the 900, 1800 and 2100 MHz bands must remain intact and the auction for the remainder be initiated only after providing the frequency to the company.
The frequency auction hinders CG’s plan of acquiring the spectrum without which no telecom operator can begin mobile service of any kind, be it 2G, 3G, 4G or even 5G. A prior decision made by the supreme court showed high hopes for CG telecom, but the NTA moved to Apex court to register yet another petition against the decision.
CG in collaboration with LifeCell was planning to start a 4G telecom service in 2019. But, with the end of the year approaching, and the auction in place, the company seems to be behind schedule as of now. CG telecom has, however, filed a writ petition against the cabinet and NTA in hopes of acquiring the required bands for their services before the remaining spectrum is put out for auction by the NTA targeting other operators.
