By selecting experts based on location, availability, and specialization, the system eliminates favoritism, ensures fair work distribution, and accelerates claim settlements.
The Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA) has officially launched the trial phase of its “Automatic Surveyor Deputation System” to streamline damage assessments for insurance claims.
Designed to eliminate favoritism, balance workloads, and speed up settlement processes, the digital platform automatically assigns accredited surveyors based on predefined criteria.
1. Key Metrics & Onboarding Statistics
To ensure comprehensive coverage across various insurance sectors, NIA has integrated a significant pool of certified professionals into the platform:
Total Registered Surveyors: 680 individual and corporate profiles onboarded.
Institutional Surveyors: 88 specialized firms registered.
Workload Capacity Limits: Individual surveyors can handle up to 5 active cases, while institutional entities can manage up to 10 cases simultaneously.
2. Automated Selection & Allocation Criteria
Rather than relying on manual assignment by insurance companies—which previously led to complaints about unfair work distribution—the system uses an algorithm to evaluate multiple parameters:

Area of Expertise: Matches claims (e.g., motor vehicle accidents, property damage) with specialized surveyors.
Geographical Proximity: Prioritizes surveyors closest to the incident location to minimize delay and transport costs.
Seniority & Track Record: Factors in experience levels and past performance metrics.
Real-Time Availability: Tracks current active workloads to prevent backlogs.
3. Transparency, Auditability & Training Rollout
The system logs the exact selection rationale for every assigned claim, enabling both insurers and regulators to audit decision-making transparently.
Industry Training: Online training sessions are underway for 36 IT and claims department heads from non-life insurance companies, followed by specialized workshops for surveyors.
Phase-Wise Expansion: Future updates will integrate reinsurance companies into the platform.
Security & Performance Audits: System efficiency and cybersecurity measures will undergo continuous monitoring prior to full-scale deployment.
