Beni to New Delhi Direct: A New Era for Nepal-India Travel
5th February 2026, Kathmandu
In a move to strengthen regional ties and boost religious tourism, a direct bus service between Beni, Nepal, and New Delhi, India, has officially commenced operations.
Beni to New Delhi Direct
The service was inaugurated by Beni Municipality Mayor Surat KC, marking a historic shift in how travelers navigate the border between the two nations.
The service is a joint venture between Modern Era Tours and Travels and Sristi Yatayat Pvt Ltd, specifically designed to cater to the growing number of Nepalese and Indian travelers seeking a seamless, affordable road connection.
Linking Pilgrimage Sites: Muktinath to Ayodhya
The primary objective of this service is to facilitate religious tourism. Beni serves as the main gateway to the sacred Muktinath Temple in Mustang. Previously, Indian pilgrims had to endure multi-leg journeys, often staying overnight in Pokhara to reach the district.
Now, travelers can transition from the spiritual hubs of Ayodhya and Agra in India directly to the heart of the Himalayas. The bus route passes through:
Nepal: Beni, Syangja, Waling, Bhairahawa.
India: Ayodhya, Agra, and finally New Delhi.

Designed for convenience, the “Friendship Bus” operates on a daily schedule with a 45-passenger capacity.

Beyond Tourism: Benefits for the Local Community
Beyond the spiritual draw, the service offers a safer and more cost-effective alternative for Nepalese students, migrant workers, and patients seeking medical treatment in India.
“This service eliminates the hassle of changing multiple vehicles and staying overnight in transit cities,” noted transport entrepreneur Ain Bahadur Shahi. “It also reduces the security risks often associated with long-distance cross-border transit.”
With plans to potentially extend this service through the Kaligandaki Corridor toward the Korala border (Nepal-China frontier), this route is set to become a vital artery for South Asian commerce and tourism.
