In a significant move to bolster Nepal’s digital economy and accelerate the Information Technology (IT) sector’s growth, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Computer Association Nepal Federation (CAN Federation) and the IT Committee of the Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC).
CAN Federation & Nepal Chamber of Commerce
This pivotal strategic collaboration was originally conceptualized by Chiranjibi Adhikari, Senior Vice President of CAN Federation and CEO of One Cover Private Limited.
The signing ceremony, attended by Mr. Kamlesh Kumar Agrawal, President of NCC, and Mrs. Sunaina Ghimire Pandey, President of CAN Federation, solidifies a robust framework for joint action and long-term cooperation. This partnership is poised to propel the IT industry forward through advocacy, strategic investment, crucial networking, and collaborative initiatives, ultimately fostering a more vibrant tech landscape in Nepal.
Key Objectives and Collaborative Focus
The core aim of this agreement is to cultivate a sustainable and supportive IT ecosystem across Nepal. Driven by the foresight of CAN Federation Senior Vice President Chiranjibi Adhikari, this initiative targets several key objectives:
Policy Advocacy and Recommendations: Both organizations will engage in constructive dialogue with the Government of Nepal. They’ll jointly present IT policy recommendations, regulations, and digital frameworks to significantly advance Nepal’s digital transformation.
Investment Mobilization: The MoU outlines clear plans to attract both domestic and foreign investment into Nepal’s burgeoning IT industry. Through joint campaigns and dedicated investment promotion activities, the goal is to firmly establish Nepal as a viable and attractive technological destination within South Asia.
IT Meet-ups and Networking Events: To foster collaboration and knowledge exchange, the organizations will co-host industry meet-ups, technical events, and forums every six months. These gatherings will connect professionals, startups, and established enterprises.
Mutual Branding and Public Engagement: Ensuring widespread visibility, both parties will support cross-branding efforts by prominently displaying each other’s logos at tech exhibitions, conferences, and various industry events.
Membership Promotion: This collaboration actively encourages membership engagement. IT professionals, organizations, and startups will be incentivized to join both entities, gaining access to invaluable resources, exposure, and community support.
Joint Leadership and Implementation
The MoU’s initiation was a joint effort by Mr. Bigyan Shrestha, Central Member and President of the NCC IT Committee, and Mr. Chiranjeevi Adhikari, Senior Vice President and President of the ICT Policy Committee of CAN Federation.
For effective implementation, both the CAN Federation and the NCC IT Committee will designate focal coordinators. These representatives will be responsible for managing the planning, execution, and oversight of all activities under the MoU. Regular quarterly meetings are scheduled to review progress and strategize future collaborative programs.
Agreement Duration and Official Signatories
This pivotal agreement will remain in effect for three years from the date of signing and can be extended with mutual written consent. Either party reserves the right to terminate the MoU by providing 30 days’ written notice.
The MoU was officially signed by Chiranjibi Adhikari (Senior Vice President) on behalf of the CAN Federation, and by Bigyan Shrestha (IT Committee President) on behalf of the NCC IT Committee.
