Secretary of CAN Federation Chiranjibi Adhikari has said that Nepali data is not safe from foreign software.

He said that a country like Nepal is facing social as well as financial challenges when using foreign-made hardware as well as software.

Now we are using foreign software, most of which is very sensitive. Most of the IT software of the banks is from foreign companies.

Any problem that arises has to be solved either from India or from other countries. However, we have not thought about its sensitivity’ said the Adhikari, ‘Who will be responsible if the data or the transaction goes down tomorrow?’

He said that such software should be developed by Nepali people and the state should also give preference to indigenous software.

Currently, around 3 billion rupees are being withdrawn annually from our country for IT alone. Many banks use software from foreign companies. A bank sends 50 to 70 million rupees abroad for core banking software alone. Apart from this, separate money is spent on document management or card software.

Even if we only pay attention to the resources, means, and manpower that we have, we will be able to save a huge amount of money from going out. To build Nepal, goods should be made in Nepal.

The Nepali IT sector is also ready for that. Nepali software should be used now”, said the official.

Adhikari also said that if indigenous software companies are encouraged, the problem of employment will be solved to a large extent.

Mr. Chiranjibi, who is currently the secretary of the CAN Federation, is the candidate for the president of the next leadership. He has also announced his candidacy for the future presidency.
