Daraz, Nepal’s leading ecommerce brand is committed to uplifting the communities through the power of commerce (Daraz Nepal Sustainable Development Goals) by launching a set of initiatives this year aligned with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Through strategic efforts focused on upskilling young women, onboarding women entrepreneurs, sustainability initiatives and cultivating a volunteering culture within the company, Daraz pledges to make an impactful step towards building a more inclusive and sustainable future.
Daraz Nepal believes that skills the young women learn through the mentorship program will hone their personal and professional skills required to thrive in their respective careers. To address this, the company launched a mentorship program designed to provide guidance, support and opportunities for personal and professional development in partnership with Life Project 4 Youth (LP4Y) and Udeshya Girls in STEM.
Through this initiative Daraz aspires to contribute to “SDG 4 Quality Education” by providing relevant technical and soft skills for employment, decent job and entrepreneurship.
Daraz Nepal Sustainable Development Goals
With the vision of creating an inclusive business landscape, Daraz Nepal is committed to promoting and strengthening the capacities of women entrepreneurs across Nepal contributing to “SDG 5- Gender Equality” and “SDG 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth”.
Daraz Nepal has partnered with Federation of Women Entrepreneurs’ Associations of Nepal (FWEAN) to provide women entrepreneurs, access to Daraz’s extensive e-commerce ecosystem and the resources they need to reach a broader customer base and expand their business. Through our efforts, hundreds of women have the opportunity to digitalise their businesses on Daraz enhancing the diversity and inclusivity of Daraz marketplace.
As a part of internalising and attaining the Sustainable Development Goals (“SDGs”), which is the centre of development vision and priorities of the GoN, Daraz Nepal is committed to reducing its carbon footprint.
The effort to optimise packaging to minimise waste, collect the packaging materials from 17 Daraz stations across the country and recycle them in partnership with Doko Recyclers and implement the use of reusable MU bags is ongoing. Furthermore, Daraz Nepal has prioritised electric vehicles in Nepal as an alternative to fuel-based transportation for our Daraz Express (“DEX”) operations. These initiatives align with Daraz’s vision of creating a more sustainable and environmentally conscious business model.
The recent launch of a park project in close partnership with UNICEF, situated near the Banglamukhi area, has infused a new dimension into the concept of parks. Daraz’s core objective in investing in park projects revolves around establishing secure spaces where community children can interact, and engage in play – a pivotal facet in a child’s holistic development.
Furthermore, our commitment extends to environmental sustainability, recognizing that urban parks, like the one near us, contribute to verdant urban landscapes, serving as carbon emission offsets and supporting biodiversity.
Apart from these, Daraz has successfully established a volunteering culture within its workforce, encouraging employees to actively participate in social and environmental initiatives.
By volunteering time and skills from hike and clean, celebrating major festivals with children, celebrating Tihar at animal shelters, mentoring youth, tree plantation, menstrual hygiene session to providing in-kind gifts to the most needy group, Daraz employees are making meaningful contributions to local communities, fostering a sense of corporate social responsibility.
Through these initiatives, Daraz Nepal is fostering community engagement and uplifting together sellers, customers and grassroot communities.
Daraz Nepal is thus committed to the mission of not just being a marketplace but a community-driven platform that uplifts and connects people through the shared value of commerce.
