DeerHack 2023: A Resounding Success!

DeerHack 2023: Fawning Over Innovation, an all-inclusive hackathon for developers, designers, and overall tech enthusiasts, was held from May 5th to May 7th, 2023 at Deerwalk Complex, Sifal, Kathmandu.

On May 4, 2023, sessions for mentor introduction and orientation kicked off the commencement hackathon. The event was organized for the first time by Deerwalk Institute of Technology students with the goal of bringing positive change to the Nepali hackathon sector by providing participants with the best hacker experience possible. The hackathon was successful in drawing a wide range of participants from across the nation.

DeerHack 2023 has an impressive number of applicants, and out of them, 65 people were chosen to participate this year. The event’s attendees represented a variety of geographical and cultural backgrounds. There are participants from Jhapa who joined DeerHack 2023 with the utmost fervor and confidence in the occasion. There are also other participants from different parts of the nation. DeerHack lived up to its expectations as one of Nepal’s best all-inclusive hackathons.

DeerHack 2023 provided four different tracks for the participants to choose from, “Data Science and Machine Learning”, “Blockchain”, “Open Innovation” and “Interactive Technologies”. Participants diligently and continuously worked on the projects of their choice over the course of the 48-hour hackathon under the direction of our gifted and knowledgeable panel of mentors. The participants were tasked with developing original solutions to problems encountered in the real world. The participants developed innovative ideas ranging from mobile applications to web applications.

After the projects were submitted, the top 5 projects were chosen to compete and present their concepts in front of a distinguished panel of judges made up of entrepreneurs, industry experts, and highly experienced professionals. The judges were genuinely impressed by the caliber of the projects and the participants’ creativity in such a short period of time of just 36 hours.

The winners were decided upon after careful consideration and evaluation by the judges. The hackathon’s winners included an overall winner as well as track winners for each track. The best male social media presence, best female social media presence, most active mentor, etc., were among the other winners in addition to the ones for the main category. The main winners received cash prizes, gift cards, mentorship opportunities, and other beneficial resources to help them advance their careers in addition to the exciting prizes that were given to all the other winners.

Team Contrivers won the grand prize of Rs 50,000 for their project Clean Cam on the track Data Science and Machine Learning with the idea of waste management by camera tracking, which was the overall winner of this year’s DeerHack.

The track winners received Rs 15,000 each: Team Custodes for their project Cognition on the track of Blockchain; Team Code Crusaders for their project Loyalbart on the track of Open Innovation; Team Pentagon for their project HEMOve on the track of Interactive Technologies; and Team The Kripples for their project ShieldTalk on the track of Data Science and Machine Learning.

It is safe to say that DeerHack exceeded participants’ expectations and gave everyone involved a once-in-a-lifetime experience. In addition to being a hackathon/competition, DeerHack 2023 offered a chance for networking, learning, personal growth, and enjoyment. The attendees had the chance to meet like-minded people, take part in educational talks and workshops, and enjoy a variety of activities like enjoyable games, DeerHack Acoustics; a live music session, etc.

In conclusion, DeerHack 2023 was a resounding success, thanks to the participants, mentors, judges, sponsors, and organizers’ faith, dedication, and hard work. The event illustrated the potential for growth in the Nepali hackathon industry as well as the enormous potential of technology to solve some of the most pressing issues facing humanity and enhance people’s lives. DeerHack revealed that the Nepali tech industry is in the hands of a great, dependable, and talented group in the future. DeerHack 2023 has unquestionably raised the bar for subsequent hackathons, and we’re excited to see what the future holds for the Nepali hackathon industry.
