26th January 2026, Kathmandu
The Nepalese tech community is set to celebrate a major milestone this week as DevOps Kathmandu hosts its 40th in-person meetup.
DevOps Kathmandu 40th Meetup
Scheduled for Friday, January 30, 2026, the event represents a significant journey of community building and knowledge exchange for IT professionals in the capital.
Hosted by Maitri Services, this landmark session titled “40 and Counting” aims to address the shifting realities of modern software engineering, specifically focusing on the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the human factors involved in system reliability.
Navigating the “Real World” of Tech
The 40th meetup departs from traditional lectures to dive into “Real World” challenges facing the Nepalese industry today. The agenda highlights two critical areas: the changing landscape of Open Source and the psychological endurance required for incident management.
The Evolution of Open Source
Sayantika Banik, Founder of DataJourneyHQ.com and a veteran in the data and open-source space, will lead the first session. Her talk, “Open Source in Transition,” explores how AI tools are reshaping contribution patterns.
“It’s about understanding why open source has always been more than just code,” says the organizers. “We are looking at how the ecosystem values different contributions and how we can prevent maintainer burnout in the AI era.”
From Failure to Resilience
The second keynote features Krishna Chalise, a Senior DevOps Engineer with over eight years of experience in architecting robust systems. His session, “Incidents are Inevitable,” shifts the focus from engineering “heroics” to sustainable processes.
Chalise will share battle-tested strategies for handling production fires, ensuring that while systems might fail, the teams running them remain resilient and avoid burnout.
A Growing Community Ecosystem
DevOps Kathmandu has grown into one of the most active tech hubs in Nepal, now boasting over 2,000 members. This 40th episode emphasizes the “bottom-up” philosophy of the DevOps movement, encouraging participants to lead lightning sessions and contribute to the community’s growth.
