“Handicraft is a part of living” Dr. Sunil Chitrakar mentions at an event of Hult Prize at Kathmandu University

The Hult Prize at Kathmandu University organized a session on  “Handicraft business in Nepal”, the fourth episode of the Entrepreneurial Talk Series. Many interested individuals showed their participation in the session which was held on 12th February 2022, through the zoom app.

The chairperson at Fair Trade Group, Nepal, Dr. Sunil Chitrakar, was the keynote speaker who is also the VP at the Federation of Handicraft Association of Nepal and Asian Rep at the World Fair Trade Organisation, quoted “Handicraft is a part of living”.

He explained what handicrafts actually are and their brief history. Handicrafts are made by home-based artisans, and it plays a huge role in the country’s economy. He gave his insights on the overall scenario of the handicraft business in Nepal, its opportunities, and challenges. He says that we lack supply and one of the major reasons for it is the lack of industrial modeling.

The Senior Vice President of Lalitpur Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Bisho Bajracharya, who was also the guest speaker, talked about the importance of handicrafts and discussed briefly ways to promote handicrafts of Nepal.
