Face Verification Integrated into Nagarik App: Digital Pension Verification in Seconds

In a major leap towards efficient e-governance, the Government of Nepal has successfully integrated an advanced Face Verification system into the Nagarik App.

Previously limited to the Pension Management Office, this cutting-edge identity verification technology is now accessible directly through the national application.
Developed by ‘Third Factor AI’ under the Prixa company, this technology was originally designed to streamline the “Digital Pension Verification” process for the Pension Management Office.
Ending the Hassle of Bank Visits
In the past, pensioners in Nepal faced a cumbersome process: they had to physically visit their respective banks every six months just to prove they were alive to continue receiving their pension. With the successful implementation of this new technology:

Over 300,000 pensioners have been freed from the obligation of visiting bank branches.

Pensioners can now securely and conveniently verify their identity right from the comfort of their homes.
How the Verification Process Works
With this new integration, pensioners can verify their identity in just a few seconds by matching their live faces with the details stored in their National Identity Card (National ID). The verification process is highly reliable and operates through two automated checks:
Live Face Matching: The system first matches the citizen’s live face to the official photograph stored in the government’s database.
Automated Data Verification: Following the face match, the system automatically verifies the demographic details linked to the National ID.
The pension verification process proceeds only after both of these automated checks are completed. This integration not only guarantees high security but also marks a significant milestone in making Nepal’s public services more digital and citizen-centric.
