Addressing the “Nepal–UK Tech Forum” held in London and organized by the Embassy of Nepal in the UK, President Dhakal highlighted the immense investment potential in Nepal’s technology and digital service sectors. He urged joint investments, startup exchanges, and long-term partnerships in areas such as information technology, e-governance, fintech, and edtech.
He informed the forum about Nepal’s ongoing transformation in investment climate and the introduction of technology-friendly policies, stating that now is a favorable time to invest in Nepal’s IT sector. “Nepal has prioritized legal reforms to foster an investment-friendly environment. Over 30 laws have been amended in the past year, simplifying business and investment processes,” he said. He also mentioned that the FNCCI has established an “FDI Support Desk” to facilitate foreign investors, and business registration and management processes have been digitized through the National ID App.
President Dhakal emphasized the need for international cooperation to enhance Nepal’s digital infrastructure, promote online systems, and strengthen technical standards required for global competitiveness. Referring to Nepal’s planned graduation from Least Developed Country (LDC) status by 2026, he stressed the importance of making Nepal’s digital trade and service sector globally competitive.
Highlighting that the private sector contributes over 80% to Nepal’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and plays a key role in employment generation, Dhakal stated that Nepal’s private sector is ready to lead the development of a digital economy. “Nepal’s private sector is prepared to lead digital economic development.
The country has been working to align its investment laws with environmental, land, labor, and tax policies, and is requesting policy stability for the next 10 years to ensure reliability for both domestic and foreign investors,” he added.
The event was attended by experts from the UK’s tech sector, investors, and members of the diplomatic community. Discussions focused on deepening digital trade and technology partnerships between Nepal and the United Kingdom.
