Futsurge has won the title of 15th Startup Weekend, organized by Nepal Entrepreneur Hub. Under the team’s idea, if all Futsals in Kathmandu were not booked, they would be open for booking via their platform. Additionally, incomplete teams would also be notified on the platform so players could join the teams for Futsal games.

According to the research of the winning team, Kathmandu has only 50 futsal, but the number of Futsal players is well above 20,000. The group consisted of David Groves, Sumit Rai, Sharukh Maharjan, Baby Shrestha, Akar Dhakal and Harsh Shah. Suman Joshi of the Board of Directors had assured that he would invest in further research for the team.

Similarly, the “Open Doors” group took second place. The idea of the group was to create an app for foreigners visiting Nepal to provide information on local-level Native arts education. The group of five consisted of Alisha Hills, Rikesh Maharjan, Pragesh Ghimire, Balakrishna Asharpati, Pratiksha Raj Upadhyay and Praveen Maharjan.

Similarly, the “traveling companion” team managed to secure third place. According to the idea of the group, in Nepal, about 84 percent of people travel by themselves or alone while 26 percent of people travel with the help of the travel company.

While designing this app for solo trekkers, if there were some disasters along the way, the app will notify them to get close to emergency services. The group of six consisted of Richa Sharma, Sojani Shrestha, Rugen Shrestha, Suraj KC, Mohan Upadhyay, and Sujin Gurung.

Nepal Entrepreneurs Hub has been hosting a Startup Weekend event for the past few years. Cloud Factory has been special support to the event since Friday, and Google for Startup has been a global partner with Vianet as the internet partner for the program.
