Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer GAC Motors has announced the launch of its groundbreaking Quark Electric Drive 2.0 motor, which is touted as the fastest electric motor globally.

GAC Motors Unveils World’s Fastest Electric Motor

Operating at an impressive 30,000 revolutions per minute, this new motor is part of GAC’s ‘Hype Tech’ brand and promises significant advancements in EV performance and efficiency.

The Quark Electric Drive 2.0 motor stands out with its exceptional power density of 12 kW per kg and a remarkable efficiency rate of 98.5%. GAC Motors has incorporated a special material known as a soft magnet, or liquid metal, into the motor’s design. This innovative material contributes to a substantial increase in the vehicle’s range, extending it by up to 50 kilometres without necessitating a larger battery.

The benefits of this new motor are particularly pronounced in Extended Range Electric Vehicles (EREVs), where the range can be extended by up to 150 kilometres. Notably, the motor allows all-wheel drive vehicles to achieve the same range as their two-wheel drive counterparts, enhancing versatility and efficiency. GAC Motors estimates that the new Quark motor will lead to an annual savings of approximately 90 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity.

In addition to the Quark Electric Drive 2.0 motor, GAC Motors has also introduced a new generation smart digital chassis earlier this month. This chassis features a notably reduced minimum turning radius of just 3.4 meters, representing a 40 percent improvement over previous models. It includes the innovative ‘Fusion Electronic Differential Lock System,’ which enhances driving capabilities on rough or challenging road conditions, even in two-wheel drive vehicles.

The introduction of the Quark Electric Drive 2.0 motor and the advanced digital chassis marks a significant leap forward for GAC Motors in the electric vehicle sector. The motor will initially be deployed in high-tech models, showcasing GAC’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of EV technology and efficiency. With these advancements, GAC Motors is set to redefine the electric driving experience, offering improved range, performance, and overall value to its customers.
