Google has opened its first data centers here in Asia.

As Asia is the home about more than half of the world’s internet user population, this move by Google seems to be in order to boost the growth of the company in this region.

Google revealed that the data centers in Asia would help provide faster and more reliable access to Google tools and services. As of now, Google has planned to set up two data centers in Taiwan and Singapore.

“The internet in Asia is going to be amazing. Between July & September of this year alone, there were more than 60 million people in Asia connected with mobile internet; this is about two Canada’s or three Australia’s,” said Joe Kava, Google’s VP of data centers in a blog post.

Kava further added, “I think that this rapid growth won’t slow for a while since the majority of people that have yet to come online are in Asia,” Hence, the user in Asia are expected to grow day by day and Asia is going to become a key market for the internet.

Asia’s largest economy is China, which has more than 500 million internet users making it the world’s biggest internet market. Secondly, India – the world’s second most populous country, has also seen the number of Internet users double to 200 million last year.

According to Google, it will take six more years to achieve the same growth in the US.

Google also revealed its plan to invest $600 million in Taiwan data center, the bigger among the two in Asia.
