The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a directive requiring the installation of GPS tracking systems and speed-limiting devices in all public transport vehicles.

The move aims to enhance safety and control speed-related issues in the public transportation sector.

In a recent letter sent to the National Federation of Transport Professionals, the Ministry emphasized the need for these technologies to improve monitoring and reduce the risk of accidents. The directive includes the installation of GPS tracking systems to allow real-time location tracking of vehicles, as well as speed limiters to ensure compliance with speed regulations.

Additionally, the Ministry has instructed public transport operators to develop and implement an online ticketing system and to equip vehicles with CCTV cameras and transponders. These measures are intended to further enhance safety and streamline operations.

This decision follows a tragic incident on June 28, when two buses were swept away by a landslide at Simaltal, Bharatpur Metropolitan City-29, on the Narayangadh-Mugling road section. In response to this event, the Ministry has mandated the implementation of recommendations from a task force report led by Joint Secretary Chabi Rizal, which studied the incident and proposed these safety measures.

The introduction of these technologies is expected to significantly improve public transport safety, reduce the likelihood of accidents, and enhance overall operational efficiency.
