Both employed and freelance journalists are eligible to apply for this insurance. The government has set a deadline of 30 days for journalists to submit their applications with the necessary documents.

In the event of an accident, the insurance will cover medical expenses and provide other forms of financial assistance. This scheme is designed to enhance the safety and well-being of journalists, allowing them to work without undue risk.

The government hopes that this initiative will improve the working conditions of journalists and encourage them to carry out their duties safely.

In a recent announcement, the government revealed that out of the applications received for the Journalist Accident Insurance Program, 174 journalists have been selected for coverage. The total insurance amount allocated for these selected journalists will be 700,000, which will be provided by the insurance company.

The funds required for the insurance coverage will be deposited with the National Insurance Company. The guidelines or stipulations regarding the journalist accident insurance will be implemented by the insurance company.

Fifty percent of journalists based within Kathmandu Valley and fifty percent from outside the valley will be covered by the insurance. Applications will be accepted from journalists working in both urban and rural areas, and coverage will be allocated based on the volume of applications received.
