The Ministry of Health and Population has issued a strong warning against the sale and distribution of unregistered vitamins and minerals.
Health Ministry Unregistered Vitamin Crackdown
In a public notice released today, the ministry stated that strict legal action will be taken against those involved in such unauthorized practices. The government is increasing its monitoring efforts to prevent the sale of unregulated health products that may pose risks to consumers.
Legal Restrictions on Misleading Advertisements
According to the Public Health Service Act, 2075, Section 45 (2), it is illegal to produce, distribute, or promote advertisements containing misleading or false information that could negatively impact physical or mental health.
The ministry has urged all health institutions and pharmaceutical businesses to strictly adhere to the law. Any organization found violating these regulations will face severe legal consequences.
Concerns Over Unauthorized Products
Authorities have identified that various pharmaceutical formulations, including tablets, capsules, and liquid supplements, are being sold under the category of nutraceuticals without proper registration.
Several health institutions and medical stores have been engaging in misleading advertisements to attract customers without obtaining necessary approvals. Such practices not only deceive consumers but also create health risks due to the unverified composition of these products.
Regular Inspections and Legal Actions
Ministry spokesperson Dr. Prakash Budhathoki stated that health authorities conduct over 3,000 pharmacy inspections annually. Additionally, more than 100 legal cases have been filed in district courts against individuals and organizations violating pharmaceutical regulations.
The ministry has clarified that nutraceuticals are not registered as medicinal products, and their unauthorized sale is illegal. Strict enforcement measures, including product seizures and legal action, are being carried out regularly to address the issue.
Public Encouraged to Report Violations
The ministry has encouraged the public to report any illegal activities involving unregistered vitamins and minerals. Consumers and concerned individuals can contact the “Hello Health” call center at 1115 between 8 AM and 8 PM. Complaints can also be submitted through the ministry’s official website and email. The government seeks public cooperation to identify and eliminate unauthorized pharmaceutical sales.

Officials have urged all stakeholders, including pharmacies, health institutions, and advertisers, to comply with existing laws. The ministry has assured that monitoring efforts will continue, and violators will face legal action as per the law.
