ICT Awards

25th December 2020, Kathmandu

The grand finale of the fifth edition of the ICT Awards, a prestigious award in information technology, is being held on Saturday at the Hotel Soaltee Crown Plaza in the capital. The grand finale of the Huawei ICT Awards 2020 organized by Living with ICT will be telecasted live on Himalaya Television, Dish Home’s channel, online, Hamro Patro app, Facebook, and YouTube.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, organizers informed that the program will be held between the contestants of the award and a limited number of guests by adopting all healthcare guidelines. ‘Although this year’s ICT Awards have been delayed due to the Corona pandemic, we are confident that the award will motivate several ICT startups across the country,” Razan Lamasal, chair of the organizing committee, stated. The organizing committee, jury, and advisory committee have worked tirelessly to make the event a success.

“We received more than three times nominations this year, and we have spent four months in the selection,” chief jury and young entrepreneur Sushil Pokhara said. He further said that the use of technology in the selection procedure has made the award selection process fair, transparent, and credible.

Although there are 11 different categories in the Huawei ICT Award 2020, the Jury Mention ICT Award 2020 has been added this year. More than 350 online nominations were received. Huawei ICT Awards 2020 has 14 jury members and an equal number of special jury advisors.

More than 30 national and international organizations have been working together to make the award success. On behalf of Nepal’s Government, the Ministry of Communication, Information and Technology, Nepal Telecommunications Authority, Nepal Academy of Science and Technology, among others, have collaborated in this award. Similarly, world-renowned tech company, state-owned telecom operator Nepal Telecome and Genesee Solutions have also collaborated in this event.

“We are hopeful that the participation of Sophie Alcorn of Silicon Valley USA, lawyer, and contributor of Tech Crunch, will help Nepali startups expand their company internationally in the award’s jury advisor,” Pokharel said in the statement.

This year, the winners of the Startup ICT Award, Product ICT Award, Rising Student ICT Award, and Innovation Driven Crisis Response ICT Award 2020 will have the opportunity to be included in the concessional loan facility up to Rs 5 million under the Startup Fund of the Government of Nepal.
