IME Group Paper Mill Inaugurated
The official inauguration was conducted by Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli on Thursday, who unveiled the commemorative plaque at the industrial site.
Prime Minister Oli’s Visit and Paper Production Process
After the inauguration, Prime Minister Oli toured the facility, observing both the paper production process and the eco-friendly calcium carbonate production method. The factory now produces high-quality writing and printing paper. Initially, the focus will be on producing photocopy paper and exercise book paper, which are in high demand for education and administrative purposes.
Meeting Domestic Demand for Paper
This new venture will significantly help meet Nepal’s domestic paper demand, especially for photocopying and educational materials. Institutions like Janak Education Materials Center, which produces school textbooks, will now benefit from locally produced paper, reducing the need for imports.
IME Group’s Commitment to Economic Growth
IME Group Chairman Chandra Prasad Dhakal emphasized that this launch marks not only the group’s entry into the production sector but also a key step toward Nepal’s industrial revival. Dhakal highlighted the role of new industries in reducing dependence on foreign labor, particularly from the Gulf countries, and boosting economic self-reliance.
Job Creation and Local Employment Opportunities
The new paper mill has already generated over 300 direct jobs and many indirect jobs, ranging from engineers to retailers and farmers. IME Group ensures that more than 50% of the workforce comes from local communities, with a focus on providing opportunities for women.
Promoting an Investment-Friendly Environment
Chairman Dhakal also praised the government’s efforts to create an investment-friendly environment through new laws and reforms. He pointed out that the positive message sent by this new industry would encourage more investments in Nepal.
Challenges in Infrastructure Development
Dhakal raised concerns about delays in infrastructure projects like the Pashupati Cable Car Project, noting that such issues might undermine investor confidence. He stressed the need for unity among all political parties and stakeholders to promote job creation and economic growth.
A Step Towards Self-Sufficiency
Chairman Dhakal expressed optimism about Nepal’s industrial future. He noted that with the opening of the Nepal Pulp and Paper Industries, Nepal would no longer be dependent on imported paper. This new venture marks an important step toward economic self-sufficiency and sustainable industrial growth in Nepal.
Conclusion: A Bright Future for Nepal’s Economy
IME Group’s new factory is a significant milestone for Nepal’s industrial development. It will help reduce reliance on imports, create jobs, and contribute to economic prosperity. The success of this project shows that with the right support, Nepal’s industrial sector can thrive and support the country’s overall growth.
