IME Pay Khalti Merger: Digital Payment Revolution in Nepal

In a groundbreaking development for Nepal’s digital payment sector, IME Pay and Khalti, two of the country’s leading payment service providers (PSPs), have agreed to merge.
IME Pay Khalti Merger
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the merger was signed on Sunday, and the proposal has been submitted to Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) for approval.
First PSP Merger in Nepal
This marks the first-ever merger between digital payment service providers in Nepal. The newly formed entity will operate under the name ‘IME Khalti’, leveraging the strengths of both platforms to enhance digital financial services.
Strengthening Nepal’s Digital Payment Ecosystem
The merger aims to consolidate networks, integrate technologies, and expand services, ensuring a more seamless and secure payment experience for users. Once NRB approval is secured, the formal merger process will commence, ushering in a new era of competition and innovation in Nepal’s fintech industry.
Financial Overview
Currently, IME Pay holds a paid-up capital of NPR 300 million (30 crores), while Khalti has NPR 50 million (5 crores) in paid-up capital. The merger will strengthen financial stability and accelerate digital payment adoption across the country.
