India is gearing up for a significant leap in electric mobility, with two of its automotive giants, Maruti Suzuki and Mahindra & Mahindra, set to launch new electric SUVs this month.

India’s EV Landscape Expands 2024

Following China’s massive success as the world’s largest producer and consumer of New Energy Vehicles (NEVs), Indian automakers are rapidly advancing to bring a fresh lineup of electric vehicles (EVs) to the market.

With innovative designs, advanced battery options, and substantial driving ranges, these upcoming electric SUVs are set to strengthen India’s position in the global EV landscape.

1. Maruti Suzuki eVX Electric SUV

Maruti Suzuki, India’s top automaker, is preparing to unveil its much-awaited midsize electric SUV, the eVX. Built on a dedicated electric skateboard platform, the eVX is scheduled to hit the market early next year, with official sales beginning soon afterward. The eVX has been designed with a modern, streamlined appearance featuring:

Battery Options: Expected to offer two battery pack options—48 kWh and 60 kWh—with an estimated range of 400 to 500 kilometers per charge.

Dimensions: Measuring approximately 4.3 meters in length with a 2700 mm wheelbase, the eVX balances spaciousness with a compact design.

Technology: It will likely include advanced features like LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs), flush door handles, and a coupe-inspired SUV shape for a sleek, futuristic look.

The eVX represents Maruti Suzuki’s first major EV model, marking its entry into the Indian electric SUV market with a vehicle crafted to meet consumer demand for both style and performance.

2. Mahindra BE.05 Electric SUV

Mahindra & Mahindra is expected to launch its all-electric BE.05 SUV as part of its new “BE” lineup of electric vehicles. Set to debut this month, the BE.05 is built on Mahindra’s state-of-the-art INGLO skateboard architecture, designed to offer both flexibility and durability in EV design. Notable features include:

Battery Capacity: Two options of battery packs—79 kWh and 60 kWh—provide flexibility and an extended driving range.

Drive Options: A standard rear-wheel drive (RWD) configuration and an optional all-wheel drive (AWD) for enhanced traction and stability.

Exterior Design: The BE.05 is expected to showcase prominent LED DRLs, flush door handles, and a stylish coupe-like silhouette that aligns with global trends in SUV aesthetics.

With a length of 4.3 meters, the BE.05 is tailored for urban and semi-urban landscapes, offering a blend of compactness and functionality. The 60 kWh battery pack is projected to provide a driving range of up to 500 kilometers, making it a competitive option for long-distance journeys as well as city commutes.

The Shift Toward Electric Mobility in India

Both Maruti Suzuki and Mahindra’s upcoming launches highlight India’s strong commitment to sustainable transportation. EVs like the eVX and BE.05 showcase how Indian automakers are investing in high-tech platforms and global design trends to cater to environmentally conscious consumers. Additionally, the launch of these EVs supports India’s goals to reduce emissions and promote energy-efficient transportation options, thereby fostering a cleaner and greener environment.

Conclusion

The debut of Maruti Suzuki’s eVX and Mahindra’s BE.05 electric SUVs marks an exciting chapter in India’s electric vehicle journey. With China leading the NEV industry, India is following suit, offering innovative EV models that cater to modern demands. These two new entries are expected to make a significant impact, as they bring both performance and sustainability to the Indian automotive market.
