On the occasion of ICT Week 2021, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MoCIT) organized a webinar with panelists from Huawei, UNCDF, CAN Federation, FNCCI, Kathmandu University, and the Ministry to discuss their efforts in the field of ICT.
William Zhang, CEO of Huawei Nepal, gave a short presentation highlighting the company’s contribution and plans for Digital Nepal. Christopher Wolf of UNCDF spoke about the Inclusive Digital Economy Score in Nepal.
Secretary-General of CAN Federation Narayan Thapa gave a presentation on the vision of ICT development in Nepal.
Mangesh Lal Shrestha of FNCCI discussed how to move forward for ICT development and the digital economy.
KU’s Manish Pokhrel spoke about the role of ICT in education during and after the epidemic.
Anil Kumar Dutt, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, discussed the Digital Nepal Framework, which is currently being included in the game-changer project in the 15th Periodic Plan.
Secretary at the Ministry Hari Bashyal thanked everyone for participating in the discussion on the role of the ICT sector in Nepal. He also thanked Huawei, saying, “I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to Huawei Nepal for supporting and promoting ICT development as a vendor in Nepal.”
In the webinar, William discussed the indispensability of ICT infrastructure for Digital Nepal. Huawei Nepal All Telecom Operators, ISPs, Govt, and all ICT stakeholders in Nepal are committed to contributing to a digital foundation with high quality, wide coverage and affordable broadband connectivity, and advanced data centers. Huawei has come up with four suggestions for creating a healthy and sustainable environment for the ICT industry in Nepal:
- Improving spectrum usage
- To move more and more broadband providers towards reducing the cost of international bandwidth
- Co-use of towers between operators and government funds to build towers in remote areas
- To improve the user experience of Broadband Internet MBB and FBB
“It is a prudent decision of the Government of Nepal to adopt a policy of launching FiveG testing in Nepal,” William said, congratulating the Government of Nepal on joining the FiveG Club. Is ready to cooperate with partners.
The Covid-19 epidemic has accelerated the need for digital connectivity and transformation. According to William, Huawei Nepal has been working tirelessly during the Kovid-19 epidemic and contributing to Nepal’s ICT sector.
ICT Infrastructure and Solutions Providers have helped to facilitate the operation of the networks of major telecom operators in Nepal and to enable broadband internet access during lockdowns. During the epidemic, the digital transformation of various enterprises in Nepal has been digitized using Huawei Cloud, data center and other enterprise solutions have helped to improve the standard. In addition, Huawei is expanding Forge to build wide-ranging, high-quality Internet connectivity with operators.
National ICT Day 2021, May 2 is the fourth consecutive year of National Information and Communication Technology Day. The entire week is considered National ICT Week and on May 3, 2021, a webinar was organized to discuss how the use of digital technology can develop the economy and society, moving forward together to make Digital Nepal a success.
