The Independent Power Producers Association of Nepal (IPPAN) has called on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to integrate private sector concerns into laws and policies, recognizing the energy sector as a cornerstone of national prosperity.

A delegation led by IPPAN President Ganesh Karki met with Prime Minister Oli at his residence in Baluwatar. The delegation pressed for the swift passage of the Electricity Bill, 2080, currently under parliamentary review, ensuring it addresses the interests of private energy producers.

Karki expressed concerns that the competition clause in the proposed bill could marginalize the private sector, potentially halting projects with a combined capacity of approximately 30,000 megawatts and transferring these opportunities to foreign entities.

Furthermore, IPPAN has urged the government to expedite the Power Trade Agreement (PPA) process for the 13,000 MW of projects in the development pipeline.

This appeal underscores the critical role of energy in driving economic growth and the need for policies that support private sector involvement in Nepal’s energy future.
