Inland Revenue Department Announces First Taxpayer Reward Draw
7th August 2026, Kathmandu
The Inland Revenue Department has completed all technical preparations for its Taxpayer Incentive Reward Program and announced the results of its inaugural reward draw.
IRD Announces Taxpayer Reward
This major public initiative aims to foster a strong culture of demanding authentic purchase invoices, enhance voluntary tax compliance, and promote transparency in commercial transactions across Nepal.
The first reward draw covers consumers who purchased goods or services online between Shrawan 1 and Shrawan 15, 2083 BS. It also includes individuals who made cash purchases and subsequently uploaded their valid Permanent Account Number or Value Added Tax bills directly to the official web portal of the department.
Comprehensive Cash Rewards Distribution
The Inland Revenue Department announced substantial cash prizes based on customer transactions completed during the first fifteen day review period. The reward structure is designed to provide recurring incentives for everyday shopping activities.
Fifteen individual winners were selected through an automated system representing one winning consumer for each calendar day from Shrawan 1 through Shrawan 15. Each daily winner receives a substantial cash prize of 100,000 Nepali Rupees.
In addition to the daily awards, one grand bumper prize of 1 million Nepali Rupees was awarded to a single lucky consumer chosen from the entire pool of eligible purchase transactions completed during the same fifteen day window. Applicable windfall gain tax stipulated under current national tax laws will be deducted from the prize amounts prior to disbursement.
Structured Bi-Monthly Reward Schedule
Under the guidelines established in the Taxpayer Incentive Program Guidelines, the Inland Revenue Department will regularly conduct automated reward draws twice every month to maintain continuous public participation.
The first draw of each monthly cycle will take place on the 16th day of the month covering all eligible transactions conducted between the 1st and the 15th day.
The second draw will take place on the 1st day of the following month covering all eligible purchase transactions conducted from the 16th through the end of the preceding month. This regular schedule ensures ongoing motivation for consumers to collect valid receipts throughout the year.
Participation Guidelines and Consumer Qualification Process
The participation framework accommodates both digital payment users and traditional cash shoppers while maintaining strict verification standards.
Consumers paying for goods and services through integrated bank applications or digital wallet QR codes are automatically enrolled in the reward system. Digital payment platforms route transaction details directly to the department system without requiring manual bill submission. However, digital shoppers must carefully retain their original purchase invoices and electronic receipts to verify identity and claim any awarded cash prize.
Consumers making cash purchases must complete a few manual steps to enter the draw:
- First, consumers must explicitly request an official invoice containing the merchant Permanent Account Number or Value Added Tax details at the point of sale.
- Second, the consumer must log into the web portal or official mobile application of the Inland Revenue Department and upload the purchase details.
- Third, the system generates a unique verified participation coupon code confirming eligibility for the upcoming bi-monthly draw.
Inaugural Bumper Prize Winner Announcement
The Inland Revenue Department highlighted the real-world impact of the incentive program by revealing the details of the first grand prize winner. A consumer who purchased routine goods valued at just 250 Nepali Rupees from Shiva Krishna General Store won the grand bumper prize of 1 million Nepali Rupees in the initial draw.
This outcome demonstrates that even modest daily transactions can yield significant financial rewards for compliant consumers while ensuring merchant sales are formally recorded.
Strengthening National Tax Compliance and Economic Oversight
The government designed the taxpayer incentive scheme as a strategic mechanism to curb unrecorded transactions, eliminate under-invoicing, and expand the national tax base. By transforming consumers into active monitors of commercial billing, the department creates strong structural incentives for merchants to issue genuine invoices.
The Inland Revenue Department expressed confidence that sustained execution of the reward program will significantly improve compliance, boost revenue collection, and strengthen transparency across urban and regional commercial markets throughout Nepal.
