Even if you are not much interested in motorcycles, you’ll stop to take a glance at this beast the moment you see it, I can almost guarantee it. The brand new Jawa Perak looks like a concept vehicle that came straight from the pavilion at a motor show. Around two years back at the company’s big reveal, this single-seater cruiser from Jawa was the concept-y thing that was the show-stopper parked next to the production-spec Jawa and Jawa Forty Two. For Nepal, Agni Moto Pvt. Ltd, the authorized distributor of Classic Legends in Nepal, has launched the Jawa Perak motorcycle in Nepal at a price of Rs 7.50 Lakh.

Design and styling

Just like the original Perak from the 1940s, this dynamo motorcycle retains the old charm and adds plenty of modern and fashionable touches. You will get the round headlamp cluster with halogen lights and a sculpted tank along with Jawa branding in golden color. Furthermore, it comes equipped with an analog speedometer that turns anticlockwise, a standard matt black paint scheme, and most the most extraordinary part, it gets this single-seat design with an integrated tail lamp.  Talking about seating, it is bolted to the mainframe via a tough-looking sheet of metal.

Another distinctive look in this beast is the slim slash-cut exhaust pipes on either side. Similarly, the anticlockwise speedometer will take time to get used to but remember you can’t read speeds between 60 and 100kmph since the cluster is horizontal. You’re seated right between the wheels, whereas the classic toolbox is placed very close to the footpeg. There’s a neat round LED brake set into the back of the seat and behind that is a large fender, giving this motorbike a classy look. Inspired by its rich history, Jawa Perak has done everything possible to bring all those emotions into its styling.

Jawa Perak performance

Coming to the power plant; it displaces 334cc and this liquid-cooled BS6 unit produces 30bhp and 32.7Nm of torque which is 4bhp and 5Nm more than its sibling’s performance. The Perak motorcycle gives the best riding experience over shorter distances, but if you are okay with the uncomfortable ride quality, its bigger engine is a game to carry higher speeds.  Crank the engine up, and twist your wrist, you will instantly notice the engine manages to hustle the 175kg Perak rather effortlessly. Vibrations are well contained, however, some filter through the tank and the footpeg while revving the engine hard.

Talking about the ride quality, in the city try to slow down to keep your spine in check. Till now, Jawa hasn’t mentioned the ground clearance of the motorbike nor have they told us about its suspension travel. On the highway, you can munch miles comfortably but chances are you may get sick of the awkwardly placed toolbox that keeps intruding the gears shifts. But, due to the low ground clearance, you can’t overcook it in the twisties. Overall, the ride and handling won’t leave you bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, but it won’t sap your confidence either.
