Jyoti Bikash Bank Partners with NCHL to Enable NEPALPAY Card Processing
6th August 2026, Kathmandu
Jyoti Bikash Bank Limited has officially signed an agreement with Nepal Clearing House Limited to enable NEPALPAY Card payment processing through NCHL’s Electronic Funds Transfer Card Switch.
Jyoti Bank NCHL Partnership to Enable NEPALPAY Card Processing
The strategic partnership expands the bank’s digital payment infrastructure, allowing it to deliver modern and convenient card services to its growing customer base.
The formal agreement was signed and exchanged by Kapil Dhakal, Chief Executive Officer of Jyoti Bikash Bank, and Neelesh Man Singh Pradhan, Chief Executive Officer of NCHL.
Expanded Card Issuing and Acquiring Capabilities
Under the newly established partnership, Jyoti Bikash Bank gains the operational capability to issue domestic NEPALPAY Cards directly to its account holders.
The integration also allows the bank to acquire both NEPALPAY cards and international cards operating on the Discover Network, including RuPay payment cards. Transactions can be routed seamlessly across Point-of-Sale terminals and Automated Teller Machines throughout Nepal and international regions.
Integration with National Payment Infrastructure
NCHL’s Electronic Funds Transfer Card Switch operates with full integration into the National Payment Switch–National Card Switch. This central infrastructure allows Jyoti Bikash Bank to route and settle domestic card payments efficiently while lowering costs associated with third-party payment gateways.
NEPALPAY serves as Nepal’s national card scheme, offering cross-border and domestic acceptance. The framework enables licensed financial institutions, payment service providers, and payment system operators to issue cards that function reliably across global and local networks.
Industry-Wide Adoption and Network Reach
A total of 11 financial institutions currently utilize NCHL’s Electronic Funds Transfer service to process international transactions. Following the switch integration, these member banks can seamlessly acquire and process NEPALPAY card transactions across their existing networks.
More than 36 banks and financial institutions have subscribed to the NEPALPAY scheme. Eight institutions have commenced issuing NEPALPAY cards, while 11 financial entities have enabled card acquiring services across their networks, with further expansion expected in coming months.
Digital Transformation and Strategic Vision
Jyoti Bikash Bank currently serves over one million customers across Nepal through an extensive network of 121 branches, two extension counters, and 75 ATMs.
Bank leadership stated that the partnership directly supports its broader digital transformation agenda. By expanding secure domestic payment options, the bank aims to drive higher card adoption rates, reduce reliance on physical cash, and enhance user experience across all customer touchpoints.
