Focus On Land And Infrastructure For Electric Public Transport
The discussion centered on land management and infrastructure. These are key elements for operating electric public transport successfully in the valley. Officials from Sajha Yatayat and various government bodies joined the meeting.
Bhupendra Aryal, CEO of Sajha Yatayat, presented the plan. He explained that land shortage is a major obstacle. Without enough land, building charging stations, parking areas, maintenance depots, and spare parts centers becomes difficult.
Aryal highlighted the need for support facilities. He noted that electric buses can’t run efficiently without these essentials. He also emphasized that Sajha can manage these buses if the government ensures the necessary infrastructure.
PM Office Assigns Coordination Roles For Land Identification
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s private secretary, Binod Bahadur Kunwar, informed that serious discussions took place. Officials reviewed how to make land available within the valley. They agreed to support the process and move forward quickly.
The Prime Minister’s Office has assigned specific tasks. Secretary Rajkumar Shrestha and Joint Secretary Namraj Ghimire will lead the coordination. Their job is to identify land and make the process easier for all agencies involved.
The officials are expected to work closely with ministries and local authorities. Their goal is to secure land for building electric bus infrastructure as soon as possible.
Sajha Yatayat Highlights Need For Sustainable Electric Bus Operation
Sajha Yatayat plans to operate the new electric fleet with a long-term vision. But Aryal stressed that support from the government is vital. The past attempts to run electric buses were delayed due to a lack of proper facilities.
The CEO explained the importance of building smart transport hubs. These include holding centers, charging points, repair zones, and spare parts storage. He said land is the foundation for all these.
The team also discussed public land that could be used. The focus was on making the process of land allocation easier and faster.
Clean Mobility Is A Key Government Priority
This plan is part of a bigger goal. The government aims to upgrade public transport in Kathmandu. It wants to shift toward clean, green, and smart mobility solutions.
By adding 100 smart electric buses, the government hopes to reduce traffic pressure. It also aims to cut down pollution and modernize the valley’s urban transport system.
The electric buses will help lower fuel dependency. They will also support the country’s climate goals and enhance passenger convenience.
High-Level Officials Support Electric Mobility Push
Many senior officials joined the meeting. They included Chief Advisor to the Prime Minister Bishnu Prasad Rimal, Economic Advisor Dr. Yuba Raj Khatiwada, and Public Relations Advisor Kiran Paudel.
Also present were the Secretary of the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, Kedar Nath Sharma, and the Director General of the Department of Transport Management, Rajiv Pokharel.
They discussed land availability and technical challenges. The team agreed to provide support from their respective ministries.
Kathmandu Moves Toward Sustainable Urban Transport
The Kathmandu Valley faces heavy traffic and pollution. The smart electric bus plan aims to tackle both problems.
The government believes the new fleet will bring major improvements. With better coordination and early infrastructure planning, the plan could set an example for other cities in Nepal.
The move marks a shift toward sustainable urban transport. It highlights the need for inter-agency cooperation and quick decision-making. The Kathmandu Valley could soon become a model for smart and clean public mobility in the country.
