In a landmark development for Nepal’s digital payment industry, IME Pay and Khalti have officially merged to operate under a new unified brand: “Khalti by IME.”
Khalti Merge IME Pay
The exciting announcement, made today, July 17 (Shrawan 1), marks a historic moment in the country’s journey towards a more digital economy.
The newly formed entity, IME Khalti Limited, now stands as Nepal’s largest digital wallet, boasting a combined user base of over 12.7 million customers and a paid-up capital exceeding NPR 540 million. This strategic merger brings together nearly a decade of experience from both platforms, poised to revolutionize Nepal’s digital financial landscape.
Combining Strengths for Enhanced User Experience
The merger leverages the distinct strengths that made each platform popular:
IME Pay was renowned as Nepal’s only interest-bearing wallet, offering strong services in remittance, inDrive payments, and other utility features.
Khalti, on the other hand, was a favorite among the youth for its innovative features, movie and event ticketing, and seamless digital transactions.
With “Khalti by IME,” users can now anticipate an enhanced, more refined, and user-friendly digital financial experience. The unified platform promises to be more secure and inclusive, combining the best features of both wallets.
Seamless User Transition and Migration
For existing users, the transition is designed to be smooth and effortless:
IME Pay users can easily migrate to the new “Khalti by IME” app. All their balances, interest earnings, reward points, and transaction history will be seamlessly transferred, ensuring no data loss.
Existing Khalti users simply need to update their current app to gain access to the newly unified platform and its expanded features.
Strategic Backing and Ownership
The merger unites strong corporate backing:
IME Pay operated under the prestigious IME Group, a prominent financial conglomerate in Nepal.
Khalti was co-founded by four visionaries and later attracted significant corporate investors, including WorldLink and Triveni Group.
