Speaking at a program held in Kathmandu on Monday, representatives from LG Singapore, Chaudhary Group, and Kathmandu Model College highlighted the importance of technical education, practical skills, and entrepreneurship in addressing youth employment challenges.
LG Highlights Technology And Skill Development
Jonathan Chan, Managing Director of LG Singapore, stated that LG Electronics has been developing innovative technologies since 1958 with the goal of improving consumer quality of life.
He noted that the company is integrating modern technologies, including Artificial Intelligence, to create smarter consumer solutions across home entertainment, home appliances, air conditioning, energy solutions, and electric vehicle components.
Beyond its business operations, Chan emphasized the commitment of LG to Corporate Social Responsibility through digital education and technical skill development programs in Nepal.
He explained that the LG Sip Shiksha Program focuses particularly on training youth in the installation and maintenance of air conditioners and refrigerators, enabling them to secure employment or become self-employed.
Drawing from his 34 years of professional experience, Chan encouraged participants to embrace lifelong learning as the foundation of professional success.
Chaudhary Group Highlights Impact Of Joint Initiatives
Nirvana Chaudhary, Managing Director of Chaudhary Group, noted that LG has remained one of the leading electronics brands in Nepal for the past four decades and stressed that major corporate brands carry significant social responsibility.
According to Chaudhary, LG and Chaudhary Group have jointly provided technical training to around 400 young people, with approximately 30 percent already securing direct employment.
He added that while artificial intelligence and digital technologies continue to transform industries globally, practical and technical skills remain highly valuable in the modern job market.
Chaudhary also highlighted the achievements of the Nabil School of Social Entrepreneurship, operated under the Chaudhary Foundation.
Over the past three years, the entrepreneurship initiative has:
- Graduated more than 1,200 young entrepreneurs
- Helped create over 1,100 employment opportunities
- Supported the establishment of 46 new business ventures
The entrepreneurship development program is currently being implemented in collaboration with 16 colleges across Nepal.
Partnership Model Supports Practical Learning
Surendra Bajgai, a faculty member at Kathmandu Model College, stated that multi-stakeholder collaboration among educational institutions, local governments, and the private sector has become an effective model for developing practical skills among youth.
He noted that the joint partnership involving Kathmandu Model College, Kathmandu Metropolitan City, LG, and Chaudhary Group provides students with opportunities to gain hands-on technical experience beyond conventional classroom instruction.
According to Bajgai, graduates of technical training programs can either establish their own commercial enterprises or pursue technical careers in hospitals, hotels, industrial plants, and other service organizations requiring skilled technicians.
Building A Skilled And Self-Reliant Workforce
Speakers at the Kathmandu event emphasized that comprehensive skill development extends beyond technical instruction to include self-confidence, continuous learning, positive thinking, and core entrepreneurial capabilities.
Organizers reaffirmed that the LG Sip Shiksha Program aims to produce a technically skilled, self-reliant, and employment-ready workforce capable of contributing meaningfully to the economic and social development of Nepal.
