Bonus Rates of 8 Life Insurance Companies Released
14th December 2025, Kathmandu
The competitive landscape of Nepal’s life insurance sector has seen a major development with the announcement of new bonus rates by eight out of the fourteen life insurance companies currently in operation.
Bonus Rates Released
These bonus rates are applicable to various participating (profit-sharing) insurance policies for the Fiscal Year 2024/25.
The companies that have successfully completed their financial assessment and actuarial valuation to announce their bonus rates include Nepal Life Insurance, National Life Insurance, SuryaJyoti Life Insurance, Citizen Life Insurance, IME Life Insurance, Sanima Reliance Life Insurance, MetLife Nepal, and Sun Nepal Life Insurance. The remaining six life insurance companies have yet to disclose their respective bonus rates for the period.
Understanding the Bonus Rate and its Application
The declaration of policy bonuses is a result of a rigorous process involving the assessment of the company’s financial position and the actuarial valuation of its liabilities for the preceding fiscal year.
Regulatory Requirement: Upon successful valuation and approval from the Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA), the bonus rates are declared on policies that share in the company’s profits. The rate is calculated per 1,000 Nepalese Rupees of sum assured on the policy.
Applicability: The announced bonus rates are immediately applicable to a range of claims and active policies. This includes death claims, full or partial maturity claims, surrender value claims, paid-up value claims, and all currently active policies. These rates will remain effective until a new actuarial valuation is formally approved by the Nepal Insurance Authority in the subsequent year.
