The newly appointed Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Prithvisubba Gurung, announces the formation of a committee to study IT sector restructuring and AI policy development, aiming for Nepal’s digital transformation.

Minister Gurung’s First Decision

Minister Prithvisubba Gurung, signed his first decision to form a committee tasked with studying the institutional restructuring of the information technology sector.

In his announcement, Minister Gurung emphasized his commitment to advancing the digital transformation of Nepal. He outlined his plan to thoroughly examine and restructure IT-related bodies, with a particular focus on developing a robust AI policy.

This initiative is part of the Ministry’s broader annual policy and program, specifically addressed in point No. 17, which calls for structural reforms to facilitate the advancement of AI processes.

To spearhead these efforts, Minister Gurung has established a working group under the coordination of Joint Secretary Anil Kumar Dutta. This group will be responsible for conducting a comprehensive study on the current state of IT institutions and recommending necessary reforms to ensure they align with the goal of transforming Nepal into a digital nation.

Minister Gurung’s proactive approach reflects his dedication to leveraging technology for national development and positioning Nepal as a leader in the digital era. This move marks a significant step towards modernizing the country’s IT infrastructure and embracing the potential of artificial intelligence.

The newly formed committee’s findings and recommendations are eagerly anticipated as Nepal takes strides towards a technologically advanced future.
