The Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) has announced its plan to provide financial support to young scientists for research projects in the current fiscal year 2081/082.

NAST Announces Research Grants for Young Scientists

According to a recent notice published by NAST, grants of up to NPR 12 lakhs will be offered under its research support program.

The program is aimed at encouraging young scientists and engineers under the age of 40 to engage in result-oriented research and the development of cutting-edge technology in various fields of science and technology. Eligible individuals or groups interested in participating are invited to submit their research proposals to the NAST central office located in Khumaltar, Lalitpur.

The budget for research grants is categorized based on the type of research. Individual or group research projects are eligible for a maximum grant of NPR 5 lakhs, while institutional research projects can receive up to NPR 10 lakhs. Multi-disciplinary research projects have the highest budget allocation, with grants of up to NPR 12 lakhs.

In addition, secondary school students (Science Class 12) conducting research are eligible for grants of up to NPR 50,000. Similarly, campus-level students (Bachelor of Science and Technology) can receive up to NPR 1 lakh for their research endeavors. Scientific societies, technology organizations, and other related bodies conducting research or promotional programs are also eligible for grants of up to NPR 1 lakh.

NAST has also noted that the remaining installment amounts from research grants provided in the last fiscal year 2080/081 will be covered by the current fiscal year’s budget. Research grants will be distributed from the remaining budget after deducting all expenses and administrative costs.

To apply, students conducting research at the school or campus level must submit a group proposal along with a recommendation letter from their respective institutions. Additionally, applicants are required to submit copies of their final educational qualification certificates, citizenship documents, and an updated resume along with their research proposals.

This initiative by NAST is expected to foster innovation and contribute to the advancement of science and technology in Nepal.
