NCHL Partners GIZ To Drive Digital Payments in Nepal’s Public Transport Sector
1st October 2026, Kathmandu
Nepal Clearing House Limited (NCHL) and GIZ’s SET4NPL project are transforming Nepal’s public transportation. Learn about the integration of NEPALPAY QR, NEPALPAY Card, and connectIPS to enable seamless, interoperable digital ticketing and fare collection across electric mobility services.
Nepal Clearing House Limited (NCHL) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, through its Sustainable Electric Transport for Nepal (SET4NPL) project, have signed an agreement to collaborate on advancing digital payments within Nepal’s mobility and public transportation sector.
The agreement was signed and exchanged between Mr. Diego Senior, Programme Manager of GIZ-SET4NPL, and Mr. Neelesh Man Singh Pradhan, CEO of NCHL.
The agreement is expected to bring together NCHL’s national payment infrastructure and GIZ’s initiatives under the SET4NPL project to accelerate the digitization of public transportation payments in Nepal.
Under the partnership, NCHL and GIZ will explore the integration of NEPALPAY QR, NEPALPAY Card and connectIPS with transport ticketing systems, mobility applications, devices and other digital platforms developed under the project.
The collaboration will also promote open-loop ticketing, enabling passengers to make interoperable digital payments directly through NCHL’s payment instruments and will support the end-to-end digitization of transport payments, covering ticketing, fare collection, transaction processing and settlement, while expanding digital payment use cases across public transport and emerging mobility services.
NCHL will provide APIs, technical documentation and technical support for integration, testing and deployment, while GIZ-SET4NPL will facilitate the integration of NCHL’s payment solutions across relevant ticketing systems, applications and devices under SET4NPL.
NCHL has been actively working towards digitization of the payment ecosystem, and this collaboration represents another step toward extending Nepal’s interoperable digital payment infrastructure beyond traditional payment use cases and into everyday mobility services. By connecting transport ticketing and fare collection systems with national payment infrastructure, the initiative is expected to create a foundation for wider adoption of digital payments across public transportation and future mobility services.
